2026.6.7 update
- What inspired you to become a model?
- When I was in high school, I went to see an event and was approached about participating in a beauty contest that was being held that day. Winning a special award there became a major turning point for me.
- How did your parents react?
- To be honest, my father was against it at first, so my mother and I secretly prepared for my move to Tokyo. There was even a time when my father wouldn’t speak to me . But now, he’s one of my biggest supporters.
- Has becoming a model changed your mindset in any way?
- At first, there were many times when I felt like giving up. But the joy I felt whenever I landed a job was incredible. I learned that simply continuing and persevering is the greatest form of effort.
- When do you feel the greatest sense of fulfillment?
- It’s when my family and friends see my work and are happy for me. I also think one of the best parts of being a model is how it has expanded my connections and brought so many meaningful relationships into my life.
- What made you decide to join neutral?
- The biggest deciding factor was how warmly everyone welcomed me when I first visited the agency. I was also really impressed that I had the chance to meet with the president and all of the managers. It made me understand why the models there describe the agency as being so warm and family-like.
- Was that really how you felt?
- I was very nervous at the time, so I remember it very clearly. I had also been interested in the agency for a while because many of its models were working on the kind of jobs I wanted to do. The wide age range of the models there also made me feel that I could continue working as a model for a long time.
- You also work as an illustrator, right?
- I’ve loved drawing ever since I was young, and I mainly create line drawings without using color. I don’t really have a specific reason, but for some reason I really enjoy drawing eyes. Maybe I just like their round, symmetrical look?
- What made you interested in drawing in the first place?
- Actually, I think I was influenced by my grandfather, who used to draw Buddhist devotional tracing art (shabutsu), and I would watch him for a long time. Later, during university classes, I started doodling to pass the time, and friends praised my drawings, which encouraged me to pursue it more seriously. I was going through various things back then, and I feel that drawing really helped me get through it.
- Is there any drawing you’ve created that stands out to you the most?
- A surfboard. A friend of mine used to paint their own board so they could easily recognize it, and that made me think, ‘I want to try that too.’ From there, I started receiving commissions, and I ended up painting surfboards that would have otherwise been discarded. I even held a solo exhibition. The worn texture of the boards gave them a unique character, and that really left a strong impression on me.
- Where does the name ‘killing time’ come from?
- In Japanese, it means ‘killing time.’ Just like how the drawings I once made to pass time have now taken shape, I believe that ‘killing time’ can sometimes become the starting point for something meaningful. So please feel free to drop by my exhibition while you’re just passing time—you might discover a new inspiration or opportunity.
- Is it difficult to balance working as both a model and an illustrator?
- I think having both is actually what allows me to keep going. Modeling involves interacting with many people, while drawing lets me focus alone. Both are important to me. Through modeling and illustration, I’ve also gained many meaningful connections.
- Lastly, could you tell us about your future goals?
- “I want to take on a wide range of different work. I enjoy digital art, but since I’ve been drawing for a long time, I also really like the warmth that comes from analog work. Going forward, I’ll continue to put in daily effort so that I can create work I’m truly satisfied with, and work that brings joy to the people around me.
