幼少時代を教えて下さい

幼い頃から物作りが好きでした。 パティシエの父からはケーキ作りを教わり、祖父からは日曜大工、祖母からは洋裁を習いました。 細かい手作業が子供の頃から大好きだったんです。

Tell us about your childhood.

I’ve loved making things since I was a child. My father, who was a pastry chef, taught me how to bake cakes, my grandfather taught me woodworking, and my grandmother taught me sewing. I have always enjoyed detailed handwork since I was young.

そして文化服装学院へ進学されました

やはり育った環境が影響していると思います。 ファッションも好きだったし、東京への憧れもありましたね。

You went on to study at Bunka Fashion College.

Yes, my upbringing definitely influenced that decision. I loved fashion, and I also had a longing to live in Tokyo.

モデルを志したきっかけを教えて下さい

学校で制作した洋服の発表会でモデルをやる機会がありました。 「鶴は背が高いからできるんじゃない？」と言う単純な理由（笑）。 それをきっかけに、学内のショーに出る機会が増え、気付いたら服作りより楽しくなっていました。

What inspired you to pursue modeling?

I had a chance to model at a fashion show for the clothes we made at school. The reason was simple: "Tsuru is tall, so she can do it, right?". That opportunity led to more chances to walk in school shows, and before I knew it, I enjoyed modeling more than making clothes.

プロになってから意識は変わりましたか

学生の時とはかなり変わりました。 お仕事ですから、学生時代のようにただ楽しいだけではなく、大きな責任が生じますよね。 とにかく、無心になって全力でやる事を心掛けています。 間違っているかもしれないと思いながらやった事は、ほとんど失敗するので。

Has your mindset changed since becoming a professional?

It has changed significantly from my student days. As a professional, it's not just about having fun; there's a huge responsibility. I try to focus entirely on my work. Whenever I approach something with hesitation, it almost always fails.

モデルとしての覚悟を感じます

ありがとうございます。 所属して間もない頃ですが、深夜に祖父が亡くなったと知らせを受けました。 駆けつけたかったのですが、大切なオーディションが入っていたんです。 祖父は亡くなる前、「自分に何かあっても、仕事があったら帰ってくるな」としきりに言っていました。 そんな祖父の言葉を思い出し、葬儀には出席しませんでした。 そのオーディションで決まった仕事が、私にとって初CMとなりました。

You seem to have a strong commitment to modeling.

Thank you. Not long after I joined my agency, I received news late at night that my grandfather had passed away. I wanted to rush to him, but I had an important audition. My grandfather used to say, "If something happens to me, don't come back if you have work." Remembering his words, I chose not to attend his funeral. That audition led to my first commercial.

そして再び試練がありましたね

祖父が亡くなってから半年後に東日本大震災がありました。 実家の宮城県石巻市は甚大な災害に見舞われました。 家族がどうしているかはわからないし、一刻も早く家族のもとに駆けつけたかったけど、結局行きませんでした。 私が行ったところで、足手まといになるだけだと思ったんです。 私はこの時も普段通り仕事に専念するよう努めました。

And then you faced another challenge.

Six months after my grandfather passed away, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck. My hometown, Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture, was severely affected. I didn’t know how my family was doing and wanted to rush to them, but I ultimately didn’t go. I felt that I would just be in the way. During that time, I focused on my work as usual.

精神力の強さには感心します

いや、決して強いわけではないんです。 モデルは代わりがきかない仕事なので、どんな事が起きても自分でやりきる事が大切さだと思っています。 これからも、鶴岡を起用して良かったと思って頂けるように頑張ります。

Your mental strength is impressive.

No, I'm not particularly strong. In modeling, you can't be replaced, so it's important to do your job no matter what happens. I will continue to work hard so that people feel they made the right choice in hiring me.
